We just expanded to Tamale, North Ghana.

MotherFood International is deepening its engagement in Ghana in support of women entrepreneurs committed to improving access to nutrition. The “Women's Entrepreneurship in Northern Ghana: an engine for women's economic empowerment and improved nutrition” initiative is supporting 30 entrepreneurs in Tamale with technical and business training to manufacture and sell cereal bars fortified with micronutrients.

The initiative is being implemented by MasterCard Scholars Alumna Nafisatu Bukari and our local partner Moses Nganwani Tia from the Global Farmer Network, with the support of the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at McGill University.

This partnership builds on our work in Asante Akim, which began with our partner World Vision in 2019 to bring homegrown solutions to the prevention of chronic malnutrition and intergenerational poverty. It aims to create a window of opportunity for rural Ghanaian women to improve their livelihoods and nutrition through entrepreneurship and to increase access to fortified foods in these rural areas in ways that can be scaled up and sustained.
